Maharashtra Discontinues Physical Classes in Colleges and Universities till February 15

Due to the rising Covid-19 cases and the surge of Omicron infections, the Maharashtra government has decided to discontinue physical classes in colleges and universities till February 15. The decision will apply to all state, deemed, private universities as well as technical Institutes and affiliated colleges.

Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant said that senior colleges or degree colleges in Maharashtra will remain closed till February 15 and all exams in the said institutions will need to be conducted online till that date. Hostels will also be shut till February 15.

The state government had reopened colleges on October 13, 2021. Fully vaccinated students were allowed to attend offline college.

Now, the elementary and intermediate drawing exams of Class 10 will be conducted online.

Teaching and non-teaching college staff will work with 50% attendance with rotational shifts.

Schools Closed in Mumbai and Pune


The order comes a day after the Maharashtra government had taken the decision to stop all offline classes for Classes 1 to 8 in Pune city and district till January 30. Pune district comprises Pune city, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation area, and Pune rural.

The order on Tuesday as per Deputy CM Ajit Pawar said that students of Classes 9 and 10 will be attending school in order to receive the Covid-19 vaccination doses.

As of Tuesday, the Covid-positivity rate in Pine stood at 18%. Other orders were given as well to make face-mask wearing mandatory and ban spitting in public.

On Monday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation announced that schools for Classes 1 to 9 and 11 will remain shut in Mumbai till January 31.

Meanwhile, online classes for schools, colleges, and universities will go ahead as before.
