Will promote research and innovation: HRD Minister Javadekar
India is all set to set up20 world class institutions across the country. Union Human Resources Development Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the move is being taken to promote research and innovation.
“The government has decided to establish 20 world class institutions across the country. This will encourage the young talent do research and promote innovation in science and technology,” Javadekar told students of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru.
The Union HRD Minister asserted, “Only through research and innovation any nation can achieve sustainable prosperity. Thus, it is important that more and more students take admission in research related courses.”
IISc Director Anurag Kumar and all students were present on the occasion.
GST to Boost Funding: Javadekar
Union HRD Minster ensured that institutions like the IISc would not face a financial crunch as it would be adequately funded. While interacting with the faculty and research scholars of the premier institute the minister explained how this will be possible. Javadekar said,”GST (Goods and Services Tax) will enable the government to provide more funds to health, education, research and innovation.
The new indirect tax regime (GST) came into force from July 01 across the country after President Pranab Mukherjee unveiled it in Parliament at the stroke of midnight hour.
Guidelines Ready: Javadekar
Later, much after the IISC event, the Union HRD minster informed the Parliament, “The guidelines are ready. The proposal is in final shape and I am very hopeful and very sure that this proposal will get the final nod in this (monsoon session).” He claimed that after ten years, these ’20 world class institutions’ will surely get the world class status.
