It was a hat trick of wins for the ICFAI Business School (IBS), Hyderabad in the area of global case study competitions recently.
One of these cases is “Conflicting Business Approaches of Two Generations: The Otsuka Family Showdown”. It has be done and written by Professor Debapratim Purkayastha and Ms. Ranjana Tiwari. This case has won the ‘Family Business’ category in the highly prestigious European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) Case Writing Competition 2016.
The second winning case is about the Japan-based Otsuka Kagu Ltd. It witnessed a full-blown fight between the founder Katsuhisa Otsuka and his daughter Kumiko in 2015. It was for the control of the company. The main bone of contention was the conflicting approaches of the two generations. And not to much surprise, the conflict was regarding how they wanted to run the company.
The winners of other categories included cases from reputed business schools. These included the IMD, ESADE Business School, WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management, Technical University of Munich, Singapore Management University, IIM Bangalore and others.

This global case study competition is organized every year by the EFMD. It is a global membership organisation and an accreditation body for quality & impact assessment in management. EFMD is based in Brussels, Belgium with offices in Asia and America.
