Mangaluru: Handwriting is part of our personality. Powerful handwriting is also an effective way to impress others, said PS Yadapadithaya, Vice Chancellor, Mangalore University.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating ‘The stroke of the pen and the power of the tongue rules supreme’, a workshop on calligraphy organized in collaboration with Association of British Scholars (ABS) at University College, Hampankatta, here on Tuesday. He said that patience, close observation, imagination, and mentoring can make our handwriting beautiful and legible.
Chief Guest and Principal of the College, Anasuya Rai, said: The best hobbies keep us active, and they add liveliness to our lives.
Neither the person nor the teacher is to blame for bad handwriting, rather, we are all victims of a bad system. Beautiful handwriting is not a gift by birth. This can only be achieved through observation and learning, said the resource person, KC Janardhan. He quoted Mahatma Gandhiji as saying, “Bad handwriting is a sign of imperfect education”.
Explaining various techniques of beautiful handwriting with light humour, he said that in attractive handwriting, the size of the letters and the spacing between them should be adequate. “If we forget handwriting, we lose cognitive power, and memory, and our vocabulary becomes barren. Beautiful handwriting is a simple tool to create a wonderful impression of us in others,” he opined.
