Union minister of state for human resource development, Satyapal Singh, has said that it is time that we leave behind our fascination for the West. he has urged the focus to be on imparting education which is rich in ancient Indian wisdom.

Speaking at the inauguration of a higher education seminar on Qualitative and Quantitative Management in High Education in Doon University, he said that “improving the state of higher education is a matter of concern and challenge in front of the country.” Singh added that quality education is imperative and the Centre is ready to support Uttarakhand or any other state with any initiative to better the level of higher education.
He added that higher education can only improve if school education is up to the mark which is also is a challenge. Appreciating the initiatives taken by state higher education minister, Dhan Singh Rawat, he said that maybe the government of India can learn something from here.
“It is good to hear that Uttarakhand plans to change the convocation dress and make it more traditional. It is time we stop imitating the west and embrace our own culture,” said Satyapal Singh. Singh also spoke about the need to stop commercialization of education and added that the new education policy should be ready soon.

Meanwhile, the state higher education minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that a toll-free number which will be launched on Tuesday “can be used by all stakeholders — students as well as college and university representatives — to reach out to the higher education department in order to have their issues addressed speedily.”
