Gone are the days when quality education was a domain of the affluent class and major cities. Today it is traversing great distances, overcoming rough patches and is coming to aid even remote areas. The IITs and IISc’s strenuous efforts are paving the way for quality education to cross over. They have taken the initiative to promote NPTEL courses in Eastern states. A total of 160 courses in various segments like Agriculture, Management Studies, Mathematics and Basic Science, Computer Science, Engineering and Humanities will enrich the people here.
Eastern States To Be Armed With NPTEL Courses
Institutions imparting higher education in Eastern India will play the medium in this regard to make the initiative, truly constructive. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur will soon be in touch with these institutions in its endeavor to spread awareness about the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL), along with the free courses the programme offers which students can access online, thereby reducing the financial burden.
It has been a long wait because unawareness has played the role of demon in cutting off the eastern states from result oriented NPTEL courses. It is not that only a small amount of students are cut off but colleges and universities are also in the dark in this regard. And to support this statement here are some facts. Only 7 per cent of the 5 lakh students in Eastern India have enrolled with the programme and IIT KGP has toiling day in and day out with education institutions in Odisha, West Bengal and the North Eastern states to spread the light of these courses and thereby boost the enrollment in them.
NPTEL Courses To Enrich Eastern States
We are optimistic about this move. Secondly, AICTE & UGC’s deep interest has further strengthened the move and this is sure to invite more approachers, towards the courses, said the NPTEL IIT KGP coordinator Anupam Basu.
IIG-KGP would approach the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology while Vidyasagar College and Gokhale Memorial Girls’ College of Kolkata have already begun talks with IITs in this regard.
Other technological institutes like Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Jadavpur University, Presidency University and other private engineering colleges in West Bengal have also been approached.
