DU's Kamala Nehru College celebrates annual day, honours students & faculty


NEW DELHI: Delhi University’s Kamala Nehru College (KNC) celebrated its annual day on April 17 with much pomp and grandeur.
The event was graced by Professor Anu Singh Lather, Vice Chancellor of Ambedkar College, who was the chief guest, and Professor DS Rawat, Dean Examinations of University of Delhi, who was the guest of honour.
The event kicked off with a guard of honour by the NCC as the guests were received with warmth and hospitality.
The ceremony commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp, followed by the felicitation of the guests with potted plants, symbolizing the college’s commitment to environmental consciousness.
The day was filled with mesmerizing performances by the students, showcasing their talents.
One of the highlights of the event was an enthralling Odissi dance performance by student Vishnupriya, who holds a Visharad Degree in Odissi from Gandharv Mahavidyalaya and is a graded artiste of Doordarshan.
Professor Kalpana Bhakuni, the principal of Kamala Nehru College, presented the annual report of activities, highlighting the achievements and accolades of the college.
She announced that Kamala Nehru College has been accredited with an ‘A’ grade by NAAC, and is the first educational institution in India to have an inclusive and accessible indoor navigation system, in collaboration with Assistech Lab (IIT-Delhi), aimed at promoting digital accessibility for the visually-challenged stakeholders.
Professor Anu Singh Lather congratulated KNC for its achievements and appreciated the growth of the college in academic and co-curricular activities.
She emphasized the importance of inculcating values of humility and goodness as integral to the education system, and expressed her thoughts through poetic articulation.
She highlighted the role of women as workforce and changemakers in 21st century India and urged the students to express gratitude towards their parents, institutes, government and country for their achievements.
Professor DS Rawat addressed the students and encouraged them to learn classical research methodology during their graduation days to hone their qualitative research skills.
He also suggested introducing academic excellence awards for teachers.
Professor Pankaj Gupta, the treasurer of the Governing Body of the college, reiterated the significance of undergraduate research as an important element under the National Education Policy (NEP).
The faculty and administrative staff of Kamala Nehru College were also felicitated during the event for their long years of dedicated service.
Suman Narang from the Commerce department, Dr Renu Bali from the Geography department, Dr Rupali Bhardwaj from the Psychology department, and several administrative staff members were recognized for completing 40, 30, 25, and 20 years of service in the college, respectively.
The event also saw a prize distribution ceremony, where students who had excelled in their courses were awarded medals and certificates.
Anushka Bannerjee from Philosophy Hons was awarded the title of Most Talented, and Sehaj Pokhriyal from English Hons received the All Rounder prize, among others.
The college also released its annual publications, which included magazines/newsletters from all departments and societies, as well as the college magazine Apoorva and research journal Akademos, both in Hindi and English.
