Delhi notifies fee structure for 2022-25 academic year after facing HC’s ire | Delhi News

NEW DELHI: Facing heat from the Delhi high court for not complying with its orders, the Delhi government sprung into action and notified the fee structure for academic year’s 2022-2025 on the basis of the revised recommendation received from the State Fee Regulatory Committee.
Taking exception to non-compliance of three previous orders of the high court, a bench of Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav had summoned the Delhi chief secretary to be personally present in the court. The top bureaucrat admitted to lapses on the part of the government in handling the issue and informed the court that the fee structure was revised late evening on April 10.
The court passed the order on a plea of various educational institutions seeking court’s direction to government to notify the fee structure.
Advocate Sameer Rohatgi, appearing for them, contended that there was uncertainty in education sector because of delay and the notification would pave the way for them to charge fee as per the slab decided by the government.
The high court in its order on February 17 had directed the government to notify the fee for academic year’s 2022-2025 on the basis of the revised recommendation received from the State Fee Regulatory Committee.
The State Fee Regulatory Committee is a statutory body set up under the Delhi Professional Colleges or Institutions Act (Prohibition of Capitation Fee Regulation of Admission Fixation of Non-Exploitative Fee and other Measures to Ensure Equity and Excellence) Act.
The HC had on March 17 given last opportunity to the GNCTD to notify the revised recommendations and had directed the secretary of the department of education to appear personally before the Court on April 10. However, on that day the court was told that the officer was on leave. The court then asked the chief secretary of the NCT of Delhi to remain personally present to explain why its orders were not being complied.
Appearing before the HC, he told the bench that the proposed revised fee recommended by the State Fee Regulatory Committee has now been notified with the approval of the Lt. Governor.
