BHUBANESWAR: Ministry of Home Affairs has approved conducting constable (general duty) examination for the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) in 13 regional languages including Odia, in addition to Hindi and English. Aspirants welcomed the move.
Official sources said it will give impetus to participation of local youth in the CAPF and encourage regional languages. Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan while welcoming this move of the Centre said, “A decision that will celebrate our linguistic diversity, encourage promotion of Indian languages and open new opportunities for Yuva Shakti. It will benefit a large cross section of our youth, particularly from rural areas.”
Dipu Sahu, an aspirant from Ganjam, said this will immensely help the Odia medium students to understand the questions and reply the answers in their mother tongue. “I am preparing for state police and CAPF examinations. I am not fluent in either Hindi or English. The home ministry’s move will definitely help aspirants like me,” he added.
Jitendra Behera, an aspirant from Bhubaneswar, expressed happiness for this announcement by the Centre. “My English is very poor, and I cannot even write well in Hindi. Now I can easily understand the question and write in Odia language with ease,” he added.
Rabindra Nath Misra, former inspector general of central reserve police force (CRPF), said it is a historic decision by the Centre. “It should have done much before. The decision will result in lakhs of aspirants taking part in the examination in their regional languages and improve their selection prospects,” he added.
Subrat Kumar Prusty, language activist, welcomed this move. “More and more examinations of the Centre and state should add Odia language. It will help the aspirants to score well and give their own thoughts clearly. Regional languages should be given respect in all sectors,” he added.
Constable GD examinations conducted by the Staff Selection Commission attract lakhs of candidates from throughout India. The examination in 13 regional languages in addition to Hindi and English will be conducted from January 01, 2024 onwards, said the official statement.
