Clash between IIT and FIITJEE over DMRC policy

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) -Delhi has moved to the high court to expel the name of coaching institue FIITJEE from the name of the Metro station close to their campus saying it could misdirect the aspiring students supposing they have tie-up. FIITJEE has turned into the sponsor of the opened Metro station like other station on blue, yellow line i.e FIITJEE IIT coupling both the well known institutes . Passout students and teachers raised issues with this move as .

IIT took the issue with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation(DMRC) , HRD personnel and the UD minister. It has likewise recorded the request in the Delhi high court.

 

“The metro station across our institute has been given to a coaching centre but this branding is misleading people to think that IIT Delhi has partnered with the coaching centre,” said IIT Delhi director V Ramgopal Rao. “This is tarnishing the image of the IIT and we are going to formally take it up with Delhi Metro Rail Corp. (DMRC) as it is sending a wrong message.”

“Since the matter is sub-judice, we shall suitably reply in court after examining in detail the issues raised by them. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has not done anything illegal in the matter,” said Anuj Dayal, spokesperson for DMRC.

 

Previous renamings by DMRC

From 2014, DMRC has auctioned naming rights for numerous metro stations to privately owned businesses and PSU’s as a source of income generation. 43 stations in total over the National Capital Region has either been renamed or been set available to be sponsored for potential supporters to put their name or in recent four years.

FIITJEE declined to comment on the case and is hoping justice through the hearing of the case that will take place on the 10thof July.
